Project Management

First of all, we must introduce Bryan Henson and Zac Shore. Allen Associates achieves such a high level of artistic execution and management excellence because of the depth of experience and passion of their people. An entire team of wonderful people from Allen Assoc. were mobilized for this project – all led by Bryan and Zac

Bryan Henson:
General Manager, Allen Associates

As our initial Project Manager, Bryan was an invaluable contributor to our project in many ways now invisible but critical to project success. As the initial Project Manager, his pre-construction planning work with LEED documentation, green technologies research, vendor/sponsor negotiations, utilities coordination, excavation logistics, sub-contractor contracts, owner communications and record keeping set a solid foundation for execution success. Bryan also contributed to the hundreds of design decisions that were being made on a daily basis, from structural to mechanical to aesthetic – especially on the Victorian but also including many details on the back building such as the rainwater catchment and storage system, heating systems and windows. From stair construction details to kitchen cabinetry layout, to fireplace design, to re-uses of historic redwood materials and master bathroom layout, Bryan worked hand in hand with Zac and Kathy Bush to execute her strong vision for the Victorian building.

Zac Shore:
Associate: Allen Associates

During the course of the project, Zac rose to the Project Manager position allowing Bryan to transition to other management responsibilities within the company. Zac applied his experience as a skilled craftsman and designer with his project management capabilities to lead the back building project from foundation and structural steel construction through all finish details to project completion. Zac was responsible for oversight and execution of all design and construction details – whether there were plans or not – as wells as coordinating all trades. This frequently meant interpreting “ design intent ” as well as reconciling very technical requirements with design mandates from the owners. This was not easy because there were hundreds of cutting-edge, brand new technologies employed on this Project that were unfamiliar to everyone yet had to be installed with precision into demanding design tolerances.

Architecture/Interiors
Patrick Szurpicki

Patrick brought years of experience as a highly talented, full-service Architect to our project. His design and technical contributions were numerous. He created the 3D computer rendering for the entire project allowing us all to clearly visualize the structure so artfully designed by Dennis Thompson. Patrick's renderings allowed us to add details to the exterior, size window and door openings and have a clear idea of the implications of the sculptural massing for the back building. Patrick also designed the entry staircase details, bench seat and railing. He also completed all of the working drawings and elevations and details for the 1st and 3rd floor plans, kitchens, baths, and finish details.

John Barlow
LightGreen

John is a master designer of lighting – especially cutting-edge, low-wattage lighting. He specified and designed the placement of all of the lighting for the entire back building.
